They give all the credit to former Collector Rajesh Prabhakar Patil for this rare achievement. They also give credit to the former project coordinator of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Digant Kumar Rautaray and the efforts and blessings of all the teachers of Bishoi Vidyalaya. In Mayurbhanj, former district magistrate Rajesh Prabhakar Patil launched a mission in 2013-14 to make Mayurbhanj a district free of child labor and raided various hotels, Dhaba, restaurants, shops and business establishments in the district. He himself was involved in several raids. Digant Kumar Rautaray, the project coordinator of the then Mayurbhanj Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, contributed to a lot to the mission of Mr Patil.
The parents of the rescued child laborers were called in, and after knowing their financial situation arranged allowances, assistance under food security, and provided loans to become self-reliant. In Bishoi school, the rescued children were admitted and provided with accommodation, meals, clothing, and study materials. Some of the students were also given vocational education training by specially trained teachers. Mr Patil used to visit the school along with his family once a month to boost the morale of the rescued children. Spending some time with them, used to give the advice to see Rajesh Prabhakar Patil in every student. The students were not only confined to the classrooms but, with the encouragement and support of District Magistrate Shri Patil, they were able to participate in various competitions such as various sports and succeed at the district and state levels. Some of them have passed out and joined for training at Tata, while others are studying in colleges and three at Baripada Purnachandra ITC.
Mr Patil also sought the help of people of Mayurbhanj district to declare Mayurbhanj a district free of child labor and requested them to give information by phone about the child laborers working anywhere. At the end, more than 5,000 child laborers from different parts of the district were rescued and admitted them in various schools for study. Mayurbhanj was declared a child-labor-free district by UNESCO. Similarly, former district magistrate Sri Patil’s own dream project “Mu Bi Padhibi” was successful in Mayurbhanj district . As a result, all children between the ages of 6 and 14 in the district were able to be seen in the school’s classrooms. “Mu Bi Padhibi” project has been widely praised in various parts of the state, with the central government planning to launch a “Mu Bi Padhibi ” program throughout India. However, after Patil’s replacement, various innovation projects in the district’s have come to a standstill.
The families of the students who have passed this year are not financially sound. They need the help of the administration for their higher study. The administration should come forward to help these students to go ahead with their dream.
