46,666 Students of 412 Hostels will be benefited
Sundargarh, (Kalinga Voice):-From today onwards, Ragi ladoo is included in the menu of the hostels managed by ST & SC Development Department in Sundargarh District. Each student will get one Ladoo every day throughout the week. A special programme was organised today in Sundargarh District for this occasion. More than 350 students attended this event. The objective of introducing Ragi Ladoo is to arrest malnutrition and improve growth among children. This initiative is supported by District Mineral foundation in the district.
In this launching event, Sj Binay Toppo Chairman, SDC Sundargarh, Sushree Kunti Pradhan, President,Zilla Parishad, Collector ,Dr Parag Gavali, and DWO, Sundargarh Sj Pabitra Mohan Pradhan, were present.
The meeting started with Millet anthem. DWO Sj Pradhan welcomed the guests on dias. Addressing the audience Collector, Dr Parag Gavali informed that the initiative taken in Sundargarh District is towards reducing the malnutrition among children. We are planning to introduce this Ragi Ladoo in Mid Day Meals and among inmates of special schools. This initiative is going to benefit 46,666 students who are staying in 412 SSD hostels in Sundargarh District. President, Zilla Parishad,
Sushree Kunti Pradhan hailed the initiatives of the Millet Mission. She mentioned that Odisha Millet Mission has helped many women in the state to make a livelihood out of millets and they are becoming entrepreneurs.
Speaking on the occasion Chairman ,SDC, Sj Toppo said that Millets are nutritious and has long been a part of Tribals’ food plate. This was once forgotten but now it has been re-acknowledged by the experts. I am sure this initiative taken by District Administration will go a long way in addressing malnutrition issues of the district.
Each ragi ladoo serving contain 9.34Kcal and is termed to be highly effective in promoting growth and arresting malnutrition among children.
