Bhubaneswar (Kalinga Voice): Keeping In view, the popularity of the folk song “Rangabati”, the state government has changed the name of a revenue village after it. The name of the revenue village is Bilung village under Bamra tehsil of Sambalpur district The name of the village has been changed from “Bilung” to “Rangbati Bilung” A statutory notification bearing number RDM-CHS-PGOT-134/2019-23354/22 July 2020 has been signed by the Principal Secretary Department of Revenue and Disaster Management Vishnupad Sethi, after obtaining requisite no objection certificate from the Union Home Ministry for the change of name. The revenue village “Bilung” will be known as “Rangbati Bilung” revenue village for all-purpose, once this notification is published in the Odisha Gazette.
Bilunga is the birth place of lyricist of the song “Rangabati”, Padma awardee Shri Mitravanu Gauntia. The Rangavati song was first recorded in Akshwani in 1956. It was later recorded by a private cassette company and released in 1978-1979. It was sung by Jitendriya Haripal and Krishna Patel. The song has become quite popular in West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar. The artist also sang the song in other languages.
