Sambalpuri shines again at Cannes Film Festival this year.

Cannes/ France: Internationally acclaimed filmmaker and promoter from Odisha Jitendra Mishra, who is currently visiting the 76th Cannes film festival scheduled from 16th May until 27th May this year has been receiving compliments on social media as he appears at Cannes in his Sambalpuri attire again this year. Jitendra himself designed and tailor-made the outfits for the special occasion. Cannes Red Carpet is considered to be one of the most high-status and glamorous stages the whole world look up to and this was a rare opportunity to showcase the rich handloom from Odisha to the world. Audience from across the world appreciated the vibrant color and distinct design of the dress. Jitendra has been a regular participant of the festival for over a decade and has always promoted Sambalpuri handloom consistently at Cannes along with several other world platforms. Last year he had walked the Cannes Red Carpet along with his wife Donna in Sambalpuri attire and distributed Sambalpuri Mask among thousands of global visitors and professionals to promote the handloom.

“It’s a feel-good factor and great honour for me that I could wear our own handloom Sambalpuri on this momentous event again this year. I have continuously tried to wear our traditional outfits on such special occasions as it always keeps me connected with my roots, my family, my mother, it’s not just an attire but it’s an emotion for us, there is certainly a magic touch in our Sambalpuri fabric whether it’s an exclusively designed silk outfit or a simple Kurta” said Jitendra Mishra.

Born in Titilagarh, Odisha, Jitendra Mishra has been trying to promote the art, culture and cinema from Odisha and India at international forums like this. He is one of the few Indian film producers and promoters who have been able to create a benchmark in ‘Alternative methods of Film Production, Distribution and Promotion’ at international level. Committed towards meaningful cinema, Jitendra has already been associated with the production, distribution and promotion of more than 110 films in different categories and various capacities all together. Many of them have got worldwide acclamation and recognition. The Last Color, Buried Seeds, Desires of the Heart and Human Oak are few recent films among others.  Awarded with several national and international accolades, Jitendra has been the festival director of the unique film festival and forum SIFFCY an initiative of India’s leading development organization Smile Foundation. Jitendra has been a member of the Cannes Producers Network and also been invited as Jury to more than 50 different international film festivals and forums so far.
