Significant Progress in Land Acquisition for Bargarh Road-Nawapara Road New BG Rail Line

Bhubaneswar, 11 July 2025: The Indian Railways is making steady strides in the execution of the 138.32 km long New Broad Gauge (BG) Railway Line between Bargarh Road and Nawapara Road, a strategic infrastructure initiative aimed at transforming rail connectivity in western Odisha. This project is not only vital for improving mobility but also promises substantial economic and logistical advantages to the region.

A major component of the project, the land acquisition process is progressing efficiently. The total private land required for the project is 1859.488 acres across 85 villages and Land schedule has already been submitted for 77 villages. 20A Gazette Notifications have been published for 46 villages, covering 1106.411 acres.

Details of Gazette Notifications Published for Land Acquisition in Bargarh District are as follows :

  1. 1st Block – 5 villages: Rungania, Sarsara, Dhanger, Bagdia, and Nileshar
    o Land Required: 264.216 acres
    o Gazette Date: 24.02.2025
  2. 2nd & 3rd Blocks – 12 villages: Bandanbahal, Birmal, Podamunda, Nuapali, Pipilipali, Dumerpali, Katapali, Sarandapali, Manpur, Samalaipadar, Baunshapola, and Bijepur
    o Land Required: 262.705 acres
    o Gazette Date: 02.07.2025
  3. 4th to 6th Blocks – 29 villages including Majhipali-37, Para, Rengalipali, Jhirlipali, Balanda, Badipali, Bhatigaon, Kamalapadar, Budhimal, Padampur, and others
    o Land Required: 579.49 acres
    o Gazette Date: 03.07.2025

This development marks a significant milestone in facilitating timely construction activity along the proposed alignment.

The Bargarh Road – Nawapara Road BG Rail Line was sanctioned by the Railway Board on 10 September 2024, with a project cost of ₹2621.92 crore. The financial outlay includes: Civil Engineering: ₹2107.30 crore, Electrical Engineering: ₹305.55 crore, Signal & Telecom Engineering: ₹209.07 crore.

The Government of Odisha is actively supporting the project by providing land free of cost and a grant of ₹300 crore, underlining its commitment to boosting regional infrastructure.

Total land requirement for the project stands at 924.64 hectares, including: Private Land: 752.524 hectares, Government Land: 123.233 hectares, Forest Land: 48.913 hectares.

District authorities in Bargarh and Nawapara have been formally appointed for land acquisition via gazette notifications issued on 15th October 2024 and 29th November 2024, respectively.

• The new rail line will be an electrified broad gauge line, providing a shorter and less congested route bypassing the Jharsuguda-Bilaspur-Raipur circuit.

• It will reduce travel distance by 53 km compared to the Sambalpur-Jharsuguda-Raipur route and 87 km compared to the Sambalpur-Titilagarh-Raipur route.

• The alignment will include 13 stations (2 existing and 11 new), improving accessibility across multiple districts.

The Proposed Stations in this route are _ Bargarh Road (Existing), Sarsara, Dumerpali, Bijepur, Badipali, Dhauramunda, Padampur, Bhagatpur, Majhipali, Paikmal Road, Bartunda, Anlajuba, Nuapada Road.

With the active cooperation of the State Government, local authorities, and communities, Indian Railways is committed to the timely execution of this landmark project. The successful acquisition of land and ongoing construction will pave the way for enhanced rail connectivity, faster movement of goods and passengers, and overall socio-economic development of the region.
