Bhubaneswar: KIIT and KISS universities have teamed up with the United States Consulate General Hyderabad to organize South Asia Women’s Conference (SAWC), 2022 in the Temple City on May 27 and 28.
The two-day conclave with a central theme “Towards an Equitable, Inclusive and Sustainable World” will be held in technical collaboration with UN agencies like UNFPA, WFP, UNESCO, UN Volunteers, and UN Women.
The objective of the conference is to discuss and find solutions for women and girls in South Asia by creating a network for collaboration and women-led change which brings together select U.S. Government exchange alumni working on gender equity-related themes from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and India.
The regional conference will include workshops, small group discussions, and breakout sessions, to encourage networking between alumni to develop innovative solutions to address key women issues. It seeks to promote women’s leadership in the South Asian region in key areas to expand opportunities for other women in social, economic, and political spectrums besides advancing the ways to safeguard our people through women’s leadership, reinforce our values by expanding economic opportunities for women, and ensure our prosperity by investing in the obvious yet untapped business development potential of women, who are currently left behind in the South Asian workplace. The deliberations are marked a step ahead toward the SDG Agenda 2030of the United Nations.
The sub-themes for discussions will include: Policy Making in South Asia through a Gendered Lens, Ending Gender-Based Violence, Women’s Economic Empowerment: Opportunities and Challenges, Volunteerism: Building a gender-inclusive, sustainable world, Building Resilience in times of calamity & disaster: gender perspective and driving the gender-responsive implementation of Agenda 2030.
