Bhubaneswar (Kalinga Voice): As per the instruction of the Chief Secretary and with a mission to transform the school environment a special green initiative is planned by the School and Mass Education Department of Odisha. It has decided to take up plantation drive in school premises in convergence with Forest, Horticulture & Panchayati Raj Departments. Principal Secretary SM&E Sri Satyabrata Sahu has written a letter to all the Collectors and District Magistrates in this regard yesterday.
The plantations drive can only be taken up in the school, where the school has boundary walls. This special drive can be a part of Vana Mahotsav 2021 , which is scheduled to be held from 1st July to 7th July, 2021, the letter says.
The letter says’ It is learnt that 22 districts were holding District Level Plantation Committee Meeting and in the meantime eight other districts might have completed the same. District Education Officers (DEOs) should attend such meeting. DEOs are advised to give requisition about the requirement of both forest and fruit bearing species to respective Collector’s offices. Collectors should take steps to see that both forest and horticulture department provide the same as per their requirement, the letter reads.PR & DW Department has agreed to provide funds for maintenance of these plants for four years from NREGA fund.”
