Bhubaneswar(Kalinga Voice) : Noted socio-political leader and Chairman of SNSMT Shri. Suparno Satpathy congratulates Wildlife Trust of India CEO Shri. Vivek Menon for being elected to the IUCN Council. He also congratulated Environment Agency Abu Dhabi Managing Director Ms. Razan Al Mubarak for being elected as the IUCN Council President.
IUCN for the past 70 years has been providing knowledge & resources needed to address environmental challenges & sustainable development. IUCN is a membership organization composed of 1,400 government bodies and NGOs. The group is perhaps best known for its Red List of Threatened Species, which helps set conservation priorities worldwide.
Mr. Menon is a wildlife conservationist, environmental commentator, author and photographer with a passion for elephants. He has been part of the founding of five environmental & nature conservation organisations in India. The winner of the 2001 Rufford Award for International Conservation for his work to save the Asian elephant, Menon is the Founder and Executive Director of the Wildlife Trust of India as well as Senior Advisor to the International Fund for Animal Welfare.
Razan Al Mubarak, the Managing Director of both the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi and the Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund,is the first woman from the Arab world to head IUCN and only the second woman to run lead the 73-year-old conservation organization.
Ms. Al Mubarak was elected during IUCN’s World Conservation Congress, which started last week and runs through Saturday. This year’s congress is taking place in Marseille, France and is being held as a hybrid in-person and virtual event.
IUCN members also elected 28 Regional Councillors for the Africa, Meso and South America, North America and the Caribbean, South and East Asia, West Asia, Oceania, East Europe, North and Central Asia and West Europe regions.
