Rourkela (Basant Kumar Jena) : The first Cornea Transplant operation in a district headquarter hospital was conducted at RGH on 24/03/2023. Dr. Samir Kumar Patra, Consultant (Ophthalmology) & his team has operated and successfully conducted the transplant at eye department from 9 AM to 2.00 PM. RGH has received the certificate of registration for transplant on 31/01/2023 from the Government. The Cornea was provided by LV Prasad eye institute, Bhubaneswar. Total 02 nos. of patients were operated successfully andcornea was transplanted.

This is a kind of special and unique service started with the help of LVPEL under the SUNETRA programme of Odisha Govt. At about 8.00 AM, the programme was inaugurated by Sj. Sarada Prasad Nayak, Hon’ble MLA, Rourkela & Dr. Srikant Sahoo, Director, LVPEI. Dr. Santosh Kumar Swain, Director, RGH, Dr. Jagdish Ch. Barik, Supdt, RGH, Dr. Sabhyasachi Pattnaik, HOD (Ophtha) , Dr. Pandit Sahu, Dy.Supdt ,RGH, Dr. Jaiyesh Toppo were present in the said inaugural programme. Both the patient expressed their thanks to Odisha Govt. & RGH to enlighten their eyes. The said operation will be conducted on regular basis now for the wider benefits of the patient.
