  • 18 households in Kurujanga adopt affordable rooftop solar
  • TPCODL empowers rural consumers with clean, cost-effective energy

Bhubaneswar, October 23, 2025: In a significant step toward promoting renewable energy, TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), a joint venture of Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, has accelerated the adoption of rooftop solar systems under the Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) model of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. The initiative aims to make clean, reliable and affordable energy accessible to rural households while ensuring high-quality and safe installations.

Under the ULA model, TPCODL acts as a facilitator, aggregating consumer demand, overseeing technical execution and ensuring smooth commissioning of rooftop solar systems across villages. This approach enables faster implementation, standardized quality and greater convenience for consumers.

As part of the initiative, Kurujanga village under Salipur Division became the first to benefit, with 18 households installing rooftop solar systems at an affordable cost of ₹8,764 each. This includes a 1 kW connection at ₹5,000, while ₹3,764 covers the solar meter installation, with the net meter provided free of cost. The project represents a significant milestone in the village’s journey toward energy self-reliance, reducing dependence on the power grid and lowering electricity expenses. A 1 kWp solar plant can generate approximately 100 units of electricity per month, enabling households to save nearly ₹5,000 annually while contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable environment.

Speaking on the occasion, Arvind Singh, CEO, TPCODL, said, “Through the Utility-Led Aggregation model, we are enabling rural households to embrace sustainable and cost-effective solar power solutions. The success of Kurujanga Village under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana reflects the growing adoption of green energy and our commitment to building a self-reliant and sustainable Odisha.”

With initiatives like these, TPCODL continues to strengthen its role in advancing Odisha’s renewable energy transition, empowering communities and contributing to India’s clean energy goals for a greener future.
