TPCODL Urges Consumers to Stay Safe during Heavy Rains

Bhubaneswar, October 27, 2025: As the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts heavy rainfall across Odisha during Cyclone “Montha”, TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), a joint venture of Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, has placed its teams on high alert and issued a public safety advisory to prevent power-related incidents during the wet spell.

TPCODL has initiated round-the-clock monitoring and close coordination with local authorities to address any potential impact on its Power distribution network. Preventive maintenance and extensive tree pruning have been carried out at major substations and distribution lines to strengthen the network reliability ahead of the rains.

Emergency response teams have been deployed across TPCODL with a special focus on most vulnerable locations of Kendrapada, Marshaghai, Paradip, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Nimapada, Nayagarh & Balugaon electrical divisions. Also, special attention shall be given for maintaining uninterrupted power supply to essential services such as hospitals, water supply systems and disaster management centres. TPCODL has stocked essential equipment including cables, conductors, transformers & poles etc to expedite any necessary restoration efforts. Specialized teams are on standby with heavy machineries, mechanised tree cutting tools, vehicles, T&P, Safety PPEs materials across all Divisions. Additionally, TPCODL has identified areas prone to waterlogging and implemented necessary measures to minimize its impact on power infrastructure and ensure timely restoration.

TPCODL is having 350 plus emergency breakdown vehicles & approx. 10,000 manpower (TPCODL & BA) has been engaged, deployed across all its divisions.

TPCODL urges the public to stay safe & to observe following basic electrical safety precautions during rainfall:
• Avoid contact with electrical installations — Do not touch poles, wires, or transformers, especially during rain or waterlogging.
• Stay indoors during thunderstorms — Avoid standing under trees, near metal structures, or temporary sheds.
• Use electrical appliances safely — Never operate switches or appliances with wet hands or while standing on a wet surface.
• Switch off power supply in case of flooding — Turn off the main power connection if water enters your home or building.
• Keep children away from electrical hazards — Ensure they stay away from open drains, puddles and exposed cables.
