Berhampur, February: TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) has carried out electrical infrastructure renovations at the revered Tara Tarini Temple. Located atop a hill at an altitude of approximately 500 meters, the temple will now benefit from enhanced safety and a reliable power supply for the public and the surrounding area. This strategic initiative has been undertaken to ensure reliable, high-quality electricity for the entire temple region, especially ahead of the upcoming Chaitra Mela, one of Southern Odisha’s largest religious gatherings.

The Tara Tarini Temple holds a special place in the hearts of the people of Southern Odisha. As one of the most important Shakti Peethas, this sacred site attracts millions of devotees annually. The temple’s Chaitra Mela, held in March and April, is particularly significant, drawing a vast number of pilgrims who visit to offer their prayers and seek blessings from Goddess Tara Tarini. With increasing footfall and growing demands on local infrastructure, the company has set up separate and new infrastructure from the base of the hill to the top, enhancing electrical facilities around the temple to ensure safety and reliability.

TPSODL has transformed the electrical infrastructure leading up to the Tara Tarini Temple, covering the 3-kilometer stretch from the base of the hill to the temple at the top. This newly established infrastructure includes the installation of 78 new poles, 8,190 meters of insulated conductors, and modern equipment to provide quality and safe power to the temple and its surroundings. This CAPEX project costs more than ₹77 lakh in total.

Previously, the span between poles was 50–70 meters, with bare conductors posing a significant risk to wildlife, particularly monkeys and birds. To address these concerns, TPSODL de-energized the 11kV feeder and temporarily rerouted power through alternative lines running along the temple’s staircase. Now, with the new system in place, the span between poles has been reduced to 30–40 meters, and insulated conductors have been installed for safety. For added security, an Air Break (AB) switch has been installed near the temple’s entry gate, allowing an immediate power disconnection in case of any issues.

The road leading to the base of the Tara Tarini Temple hill from Tara Tarini Square has been widened for better access, and TPSODL has erected 40 new 11kV poles, along with conductors and other electrical equipment, to ensure a steady and reliable power supply for the convenience of the public. Similarly, the ropeway near the temple has been well-equipped, and its electrical systems are properly maintained by the TPSODL team.

The development of robust and safe electrical infrastructure at the temple is set to enhance the pilgrimage experience while promoting Tara Tarini as a premier spiritual tourism destination. With an influx of devotees and visitors, the modernized power network will support local businesses, fostering the region’s economic growth.

Speaking on this initiative, Mr. Amit Kumar Garg, CEO of TPSODL, said: “The Tara Tarini Temple is a symbol of devotion and faith for millions of people across Odisha and beyond. Our commitment to ensure reliable electricity supply to the region has driven us to re-establish the electrical infrastructure surrounding the temple. This project aligns with our mission to provide quality power services, and we believe it will greatly enhance the experience for devotees and visitors to the temple.”
