Bhubaneswar (Kalinga Voice); gIn continuation of diamond jubilee celebration of CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (IMMT) Bhubaneswar, a two-day workshop and training programme on “Advances in Corrosion Technology and Prevention (ACTP-2023)” has been organized on 20th – 21st July 2023.The welcome address was given by the chairman of the workshop Dr. R. Sakthivel, Chief Scientist, IMMT and the programme is steered by convenor Dr. Sourav Ganguly. The inauguraladdress is delivered by the Director of the instituteDr. Ramanuj Narayan. He emphasizedthe importance of this workshop in todays’ context. This workshop provides an excellent opportunity for corrosion practitioners, designers, technical managers, inspection, and maintenance engineers, quality control personnel, and individuals involved in failure analysis to enhance their understanding of corrosion and stay updated on emerging technologies for corrosion control and prevention. Mr. Sanjay Kumar Vasudevan, Executive Director, South Eastern Region Pipelines (SERPL), IOCL, Bhubaneswar graced the occasion as Chief Guest. He has deliberated on the problems of corrosion in oil companies, particularly, in pipelines. In India, corrosion is estimated to impact around 4% of India’s GDP. Hence, it is of extreme importance to gather comprehensive understanding of corrosion, devise innovative designs, and implement technical solutions.
Shishir Kumar Patra General Manager, HAL graced the occasion as the guest of the honour. He presented the role of protective coatings in the aerospace sector and emphasises the role of advancements in corrosion prevention technology including different types of coatings used in aeroengines. One keynote and twelve invited talks were delivered by domain experts on the problems of corrosion and its mitigation. Followed by the technical sessions, various lab visits and hands-on-training of testing equipment were conducted. This workshop cum training program was attended by more than 150 participants including students, researchers, scientists, academicians, industry personnels from various parts of the country. Manoj Kumar, Co-Convenor and scientist at IMMT proposed vote of thanks for successful completion of the workshop and training program.
