Lanjigarh/ Kalahandi (Kalinga Voice) : Vedanta Limited, Lanjigarh, the premier producer of metallurgical grade alumina in India, has bagged the prestigious CII National Award for Excellence in Water Management for the year 2020. The plant has been recognized as a ‘Noteworthy Water Efficient Unit’ in ‘Within the Fence Category’ during the National Competition for Excellence in Water Management. Among around 100 participants, Vedanta bagged this coveted award. On behalf of the company,Mr. Santosh Kumar Nayak, Head-Environment, Vedanta Limited, Lanjigarh received the award during the awards ceremony held virtually on 16thDecember 2020.
The award marks the recognition from CII for the leadership, vision andefforts by organizations in establishing path breaking practices in efficient water management.Towards ensuring efficient water management, Vedanta Lanjigarh has a very robust system in place. The unit is taking measures towards prevention of water pollution- both the ground water and surface water with various state-of-the-art technologies. The plant also deploys regular water monitoring and review system. One of the significant achievements in terms of water management by Vedanta Lanjigarh is the reduction in specific water consumption from 3.03 m3/tonne in FY 2015-16 to 1.96 m3/tonne in FY 2019-20. The company has also taken up initiatives towards rain water harvesting in the catchment of the plant and its township.

The company operates a 2 MTPA (million tonnes per annum) capacity alumina refinery in Lanjigarh (Kalahandi district, Odisha), India since 2007 and an associated 90 MW captive power plant.
