Construction work of 17 In-stream Storage Structures have been started

Bhubaneswar (Kalinga Voice) : Out of different major achievements of Department of Water Resources, Odisha in the Calendar Year-2022, this department has been successful in beginning of construction of new project like In-steam Storage Structures in different rivers. The Government of Odishahas approved  ISS projects with an aim that, these structures will provide double benefit such as conservation of surface water and increase in ground water table in the area where the projects will be constructed. By the end of 2022, out of approved projects,17nos of ISS projects namely Nandagaon in Nuapada district, Gudvella in Bolangir district ,Gochara, Kirasasan&Budharaja in Sambalpur district, Mahulpali in Bargarh district, Kudbega, Kopsinga, Jharbeda&Hamirpur in Sundergarh district, Kuakhai&Kusabhadrain Khurda district, Dhanei&Kansariganda in Ganjam district , Sirigida&Khalpal in Angul district and an Integrated barrage over Kochila& Baitarani in Jajpur district have been taken up.

           Besides, tender process has been completed for 05 projects namely Choudhurygada-Tikiri in Jagatsingpur district, Telkoi&Santeibhanj in Keonjhar district and Kinjirimain Sundergarh andSaida in Sambalpur district.Works has also been taken up in 40 Mega lift irrigation projects covering 04 clusters (Cluster XVIII-8 Nos, XIX-14 nos, XX- 9 Nos, XXI-9 nos) to provide irrigation to 57793 ha.

Under Water Conservation(Jal Shakti Abhiyan, from 9th March-16th Dec 2022),the DoWR, Odisha in supports of concerned  departments like RD,H&UD, Panchayatiraj& DW, F&ARD, Forest, Environment and Climate Change &District Administration, has completed 45,823 nos of Water conservation structures & Rain Water Harvesting Structures, renovated 9,825 nos of water bodies, completed 9,612 nos of re-use and re-charge structures, developed 59,867 nos of watersheds, 8,02,12,789 nos intensive afforestation have been done and 54 programmes were held for awareness generation.
