World Cancer Day: Apollo Hospital organizes Cyclothon to raise Awareness about Cancer

• Organises various other public sensitization programmes to mark World Cancer Day

On the occasion of World Cancer Day, Odisha’s leading multispecialty health care institution Apollo Hospital organized a mega cyclothon and a series of various other programmes to spread awareness about the deadly disease. The Cyclothon was flagged off by Shri. Sudhir M. Diggikar, Regional CEO of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited in presence of Dr. Ashish Chandra, Director Medical Services, Ms. Swagatika Acharya, Cancer Survivor and the Founding and Managing Director of Awaaken, Mrs. Sarita Mishra, Delivery Centre Head-Tata Consultancy Services, Bhubaneswar and Mr. Sabyasachi Mishra, eminent cine-artist and social activist. More than 200 participants joined the cyclothon and travelled around 15 km across the city to spread awareness about prevention, care and treatment of Cancer.
“Cancer care has become one of the fastest-growing healthcare imperatives. Apollo Cancer Centre in Bhubaneswar stands as a ray of hope for people of Odisha to access the most advanced cancer care at a reasonable cost. As awareness is the first step in prevention of any disease, I hope this cyclothon and various other public awareness programme being organized today would help in educating people about prevention, care and treatment of this killer disease,” said Regional CEO Shri. Sudhir M. Diggikar. He also
launched special packages for cancer screening, which is very helpful in early detection and better treatment. “These packages would help all people who want to get their screening done at a very affordable cost,” he added.

Every year, 4th February is observed as World Cancer Day and the theme for this year is “Together, all our actions matter”. Apollo Hospital also organized an online Drawing & Coloring competition, Essay writing competition and Online poster making competition for kids and adolescents to sensitize them about Cancer. Students from 7 to 18 years of age participated in the competition from 27th January to 2nd February. On the occasion, Winners of each category were felicitated with prizes and letter of recognition.
Besides, the hospital also organized a dance and role-play programme and a cooking show with the theme “Beat Cancer with my recipe” to spread awareness. Cancer Survivors also shared their story in an afternoon talk show with the consultants of the Hospital. A panel discussion comprising of eminent doctors, educationists and corporate leaders was also held to harp on the menace of breast cancer and abdominal cancers caused due to junk food.
