  • The government is busy in self-promotion by claiming false success.
  • The victims should be tried in fast track courts for speedy justice.

Bhubaneswar, 22/02/2026: After the double engine government came to power, the law and order situation in the state has deteriorated and women’s safety has become a complete disaster, the Biju Janata Dal has alleged. Instead of improving, the situation is getting worse day by day.

At a press conference held at Shankha Bhavan today, party PAC member and former Minister Smt. Tukuni Sahu, former Women’s Commissioner Smt. Minti Behera, Smt. Jyotsnamayi Parida and RitanjaliPradhan slammed the state government for the disastrous law and order situation and women’s safety in the state.

Smt. Tukuni Sahu said that the incident of gang rape of a class 7 student by five teachers in a private school in Rajkanika block of Kendrapara district has come to the fore, which has deeply hurt the hearts of every person in the state. Sadly and regrettably, since the BJP came to power in the state, news of minor students staying in schools and government hostels being raped, harassed and getting pregnant has been making headlines in the media. Although the opposition parties, especially the Biju Janata Dal, have been raising their voices on the issue of providing adequate security to women, the state government is not waking up. The government is busy in its propaganda of false success. Due to the government’s apathy, it does not claim to stop the atrocities against women. In the political incident, on the instructions of the BJD president, a fact-finding team met the victim’s family as well as met the police officers and demanded speedy justice for the victim.

Ms. Minati Behera said that although the accused have been arrested by the police after the visit of the BJD delegation, the BJD demands that the incident of gang rape of a minor girl be thoroughly investigated and tried in a fast track court. Ms. Behera said that during the last 19 months of BJP rule, more than 40,000 women have been victims of atrocities. More than 4000 women have been victims of rape and gang rape and more than 200 minor girls have been raped.

BJD fact Finding Team member Smt. Jyotsnamayi Parida said, the victim’s family members and the villagers are completely shocked by this incident. A minor girl was being raped in the school premises in a planned manner. The school’s CCTV cameras were switched off during this incident. Moreover, the accused repeatedly asked the victim not to tell anyone about the incident and threatened that if she did, the victim’s younger brother, who is studying in two classes in the same school, would be killed. Therefore, BJD has demanded a detailed investigation into this incident and strict punishment to all the accused.
