Tecnimont Empowers Rural Girls in STEM: Paradip School Shines at WiSE Event.

Mumbai, 20thJuly, 2023 – Tecnimont Private Limited (TCMPL), a subsidiary of MAIRE Group, had recently announced its funding support for Women in Science, Engineering (WiSE) from rural parts of India. The initiative involving a total of 160 girls was led by Prof. Rajesh Zele from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) to encourage young girls from rural parts of India to pursue higher education in STEM started with a week-long intensive residential program at IIT Bombay. 

This activity was part of MAIRE Group’s sustainability strategy, specifically in the creation of value for the territories and communities where MAIRE Group operates through corporate social responsibility projects and initiatives.

Excited with the collaboration, Valentina Grieco, MAIRE Group CSR Senior Specialist said, “Project WiSE is driven with a special focus on the rural areas from India, such as Maharashtra, Bihar and Odisha to help the adolescent girls build their confidence in subjects like Science and Mathematics. While the rural adolescent girls face challenging situations in continuing their education, TCMPL strives to make education interesting for the students and parents to ensure enrolment of girls continues in higher standards.”

We are thrilled to share the incredible experience of Delhi Public School, Paradip at the recent WiSE event held at IITB campus in Mumbai. This event has left an indelible mark on the school community.

Mrs. Laxmipriya Das, Teacher – Delhi Public School, Paradip – shared that “Under the guidance of Principal, Mr. Jagneswar Bora, our students had the privilege of participating in this enriching event. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Tecnimont for the opportunity, and special thanks to the Paradip District Magistrate and Education Officer for selecting our school for this prestigious event”.

Principal Mr. Jagneswar Bora expressed deep appreciation for the opportunity provided by Tecnimont and acknowledged the significance of this event for the students. “Many of our students come from the rural parts of the state, an exposure to the school for WiSE event has brought immense joy to teachers, parents and students. The visit to IITB Mumbai, a dream city for many, served as a powerful source of inspiration and motivation. Our students have been eagerly sharing their experiences and newfound knowledge with their peers, and they have also brought back experimental kits to demonstrate concepts during their academic courses,” he said.

Mrs. Laxmipriya Das, the accompanying teacher, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the school for allowing her to be part of the WiSE event in Mumbai. She emphasized the tremendous benefits gained from the event, particularly in making science more engaging and intriguing for our students. Inspired by the Winspirers at the event, she has committed herself to teaching Science and Maths in the simplest form, fostering a genuine interest in these subjects among our students. Additionally, she praised the seamless logistics, comfortable accommodations, and delicious meals provided by Tecnimont and IITB, ensuring a joyful and contented experience throughout the journey. Such opportunities broaden their horizons, ignite a passion for learning, and inspire them to reach for excellence.

Finally, the student shared that the camp has been very inspirational as they were introduced to technologically informative things that enabled them to prepare simple to complex circuits through interactive and enjoyable learning in the presence of aspiring engineering students. “We had the opportunity to learn from peers from different states; the intermingling of students for group activities has helped us identify our strengths and abilities. Thanks to Tecnimont and IITB for planning this innovative programme in a place far away from our state and giving us inspiration that would help us shape our career,” they shared.
