Kokrajhar, October 27, 2026: NTPC Bongaigaon marked another significant milestone in its community development initiatives with the flagging-off ceremony of 50 local youth selected for industry-oriented skill training under Project SAKSHAM (सक्षम), a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative being implemented in collaboration with the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET), Guwahati.

The flagging-off ceremony was held in the august presence of Shri Derhasat Basumatary, Hon’ble Executive Member, Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Health and Family Welfare, and Shri Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon. The occasion was also graced by Shri Pranjit Kr. Wary, Addl Principal Secretary, BTC, Dr. Harekrishna Deka, In-Charge, CIPET Guwahati; Shri Anurag Gupta, GM (O&M), NTPC Bongaigaon; Shri Rajesh Kumar Maji, GM (Maintenance & Ash Dyke Management); Shri Amit Kumar Asthana, AGM (HR), NTPC Bongaigaon; along with senior officials and representatives of the participating institutions.

The initiative, being undertaken with a financial commitment of approximately ₹35.99 lakh, aims to empower 50 unemployed and underemployed youth, particularly from Project Affected Villages (PAVs) and neighbouring communities of Kokrajhar district, through specialised training in Polymer Science and Processing. The programme seeks to bridge the gap between education and employment by providing industry-relevant technical knowledge, practical exposure and opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.

During the ceremony, the dignitaries interacted with the participating students, enquiring about their educational backgrounds, aspirations and career ambitions. The interaction provided an opportunity for the young participants to share their expectations from the training programme and their enthusiasm for acquiring technical skills that could open new avenues of employment and entrepreneurship.

The dignitaries encouraged the trainees to approach the programme with dedication, discipline and a spirit of continuous learning, emphasising that technical competence, professional commitment and adaptability are essential for succeeding in today’s evolving industrial landscape.

Under Project SAKSHAM, the selected youth will undergo structured, industry-oriented training at CIPET Guwahati, encompassing polymer materials, processing technologies, quality control, industrial safety and related applications. The programme will combine classroom instruction with hands-on practical training, industry exposure, career guidance and placement assistance, enabling participants to develop competencies aligned with the requirements of the polymer, plastics and allied manufacturing sectors.

The initiative holds particular significance for the youth of Kokrajhar and the wider Bodoland Territorial Region, where access to specialised vocational training can create meaningful pathways towards employment, financial independence and improved socioeconomic opportunities. By connecting local talent with the technical expertise and training infrastructure of CIPET, the programme aims to nurture a new generation of skilled, confident and industry-ready professionals.

Aligned with the Government of India’s Skill India Mission and the Sustainable Development Goals relating to Quality Education, Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Reduced Inequalities, Project SAKSHAM reflects NTPC Bongaigaon’s continuing emphasis on creating opportunities that extend beyond conventional community development interventions.

The flagging-off ceremony represented more than the commencement of a training programme; it marked the beginning of a journey from learning to livelihood, carrying the aspirations of 50 young individuals towards greater self-reliance and promising professional futures.

Through such focused CSR interventions, NTPC Bongaigaon continues to strengthen its engagement with neighbouring communities, placing skill development, youth empowerment and sustainable livelihood creation at the centre of its commitment to inclusive regional development.
