Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar in Association with Odisha Women in Media Spread Awareness on Women’s Mental Health

Bhubaneswar –Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar organised a mental health talk in association with the Odisha Women in Media(OWM) on October 18th, 2024. It collaborated on key women health issues and sawthe participation of nearly 60 lady journalists from Bhubaneswar.The talk empowered participants with essential knowledge to enhance their awareness about mental wellness and dispel common myths surrounding women’s overall well-being.

Through two informative sessions, the event fostered a deeper understanding of health issues that directly impact women in today’s society.The first session, “Understanding Mental Health,” was led by Dr. S.A. Idrees, Consultant Psychologist, Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar. Dr.Idrees talked about the importance of recognizing mental health issues, provided some useful techniques to cope with stress and underlined how crucial it is to maintain emotional balance. The discussion saw participants engaging in dialogue on the struggles women journalists face in managing mental well-being in high-pressure environments.

Following this, Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Senior Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynecology at Manipal Hospital Bhubaneshwar, delivered a session titled “Unlocking the Truth: Dispelling Myths and Embracing Facts in Gynaecological Health.” This session dealt with widespread misconceptions related to reproductive health, menstruation, and menopause. Dr. Kaur equipped participants with evidence-based knowledge, enabling them to make informed health decisions and share accurate information with their audiences and communities.

Dr. Saktimaya Mohapatra, Hospital Director at Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar, expressed his support for the event, stating, Empowering women with correct health information is utmost important. Programmes like this encourage women to understand and make them aware of the stereotype surrounding mental health. Open dialogues on such crucial topics will also empower women to prioritize their overall well-being.”

Sarada Lahangir, Vice President of Odisha Women in Media (OWM), highlighted the significance of the collaboration, stating, “I appreciate Manipal Hospital Bhubaneshwar’s effort in designing the mental health discussion which is vital for women journalists.
