- Girl students unsafe in college
- BJD Demands Principal’s Arrest
- Balasore MP fails to provide justice to student
Bhubaneswar, 12/07/2025:BJD has blamed the inaction of the college authorities and police, as well as the irresponsible behaviour of the Balasore MP, for the suicide attempt of a student of Fakir MohanAutonomous College by pouring petrol on herself. BJD has asked to whom the women in the state will approach for justice.
At a press conference held at Shankha Bhawan today, BJD spokesperson Mrs. Ipsita Sahu said that on 01.07.2025, a student of Fakir Mohan Autonomous College made a written complaint against a professor and the chairman did not take this complaint seriously. As a result, the chairman did not take any immediate action, and the student was forced to stand at the police station. After failing to get justice there too, she personally met Balasore Lok Sabha MP Pratap Sarangi and expressed her grief. Pratap Sarangi has also admitted this in the media. But ironically, Mr. Sarangi did not take any serious action to provide justice to the student. By taking the incident lightly, today, after struggling for justice for 12 days, the student was forced to take the extreme decision of attempt to commit suicide.
Even though the student was a member of the Akhila Bharatia Vidyarthi Parishad, the state government could not provide her with security and justice. But how can an ordinary student expect security and justice from this government? Even though the student was a member of the ABVP, the safety and dignity of women is paramount for us. Biju Janata Dal will continue to fight until this student gets justice. After this outrageous incident, the college Principal irresponsibly comment in the media that this is not a big allegation. This clearly shows that the Principal is trying his best to protect the accused. Therefore, the BJD has demanded that the Principal be arrested and placed under investigation.
Recently, a student was brutally gang-raped at Gopalpur beach. This horrific incident has not been erased from the minds of the student community, but today’s incident at Fakir Mohan College has shocked them even more. This incident clearly shows that students and women in the state have become completely unsafe. This shows that the state government has completely failed to provide protection and justice to women, said Mrs. Sahu.
The student who attempted suicide is undergoing treatment at AIIMS in Bhubaneswar. A delegation of Biju Janata Dal visited AIIMS to understand her health condition and treatment arrangements, discussed the incident with the victim’s brother, father and other family members wished her a speedy recovery. The delegation includes former minister Mrs. Snehangini Chhuria, former MP Rajshree Mallick, Mayor Mrs. Sulochana Das, MLA Gautam Budha Das, Senior General Secretary Dr. Lekhasri Samantasinghar, Media Coordinator Dr. Priyabrat Majhi and Spokesperson Mrs. Ipsita Sahu.
