Jharsuguda: Odisha Power Generation Corporation Ltd. (OPGC) has clinched the second position among state-sector thermal power plants in India for FY 2024-25, achieving an impressive Plant Load Factor (PLF) of 83.8%. This milestone, announced by Senior Vice President (Opera-tions) Sukanta in Mohapatra during a press meet Jharsuguda, places OPGC 19th among all thermal power plants nationwide, surpassing the national average PLF of 69.47%.
OPGC’s IB Thermal Power Station at Banharpali, Jharsuguda, with a capacity of 1740 MW from two 210 MW and two 660 MW super-critical units, has earned accolades for operational excellence. The com-pany recently received the CII Excellent Energy Efficient Unit Award 2024, the State-Level Energy Conservation Award 2024, and the Economic Times Energy Leadership Award 2025 for digital transforma-tion, among others.

Looking ahead, OPGC unveiled ambitious ex-pansion plans. Stage-3, comprising Units 5 and 6, is set for commission-ing by June 2031, with tenders to be floated this month. In renewable en-ergy, a 50 MW solar plant on reclaimed ash pond land and a 2.5 MW solar installation are contract slated for awards by December 2025. A 2 GW solar-wind hybrid project is also in the pipeline. Additionally, a Rs. 757 crore modern-ization of Units 1 and 2 will extend their life by 15 years, targeting comple-tion by December 2026.
