Jharsuguda: True progress in a society begins when every child is given an equitable opportunity to learn from quality educational resources. This belief guides Vedanta Aluminium’s efforts through Project Vidyagraha, a pioneering digital learning initiative that is transforming educational access for thousands of students across Jharsuguda district.
Since its launch in 2022, Project Vidyagraha has delivered over 300 pre-recorded lessons as digital learning materials in Mathematics, Science, and English. These digital learning modules are designed as supplemental resources that augment the learning experience of students in rural schools. The project has reached more than 12,000 students in 106 government schools across 5 blocks in Jharsuguda district, with the learning resources accessed over 21,000 times.
By complementing traditional teaching with easily accessible digital content, the program empowers students to learn at their own pace and revisit complex topics as needed, enabling improved academic outcomes. At Kailash Bhai Jaiswal Government High School in Laikera, Aliv Ranjan Pruseth scored an outstanding 93.33% in his board examinations this year. For him, Vidyagraha’s video lessons and interactive community classes provided clarity in subjects that once felt too daunting. “The lessons explained everything step by step. If I did not understand something the first time, I could go back and learn it again, gaining confidence,” shares Aliv.
Madhusmita Dalai, a student at the Municipal High School in Ekatali, echoes his thoughts. She achieved an impressive 93.33% in her board exams, finding renewed support through Vidyagraha’s blended learning model. For her, the Vidyagraha app and classes created a structured, encouraging environment that kept her motivated. “With the app and classes, I felt supported at every step. The clear guidance and consistent encouragement helped me to do better,” Madhusmita says.
Aliv and Madhusmita are shining examples of academic achievement through determination and hard work, and their stories reflect a broader transformation in rural learning avenues enabled by Vedanta’s education initiatives. Across Jharsuguda, teachers are witnessing students who are more engaged, achieving better academic results, and approaching their studies with renewed curiosity.
Speaking about the impact of the initiative, C. Chandru, CEO – Vedanta Jharsuguda, shared his views: “Education is the cornerstone of societal progress, and empowering our youth is essential to shaping a brighter tomorrow. Through initiatives like Project Vidyagraha, we are equipping students with the tools to dream beyond limits and succeed, thereby sparking development across communities.”

Today, Project Vidyagraha has grown beyond a mere digital education initiative; it has become a movement of empowerment. The results speak for itself – more confidence in classrooms, more students passing with distinction, and more doors opening for their future. Such efforts have contributed to Jharsuguda recording an impressive 97.87% pass rate in the 2024-25 Annual High School Certificate (AHSC) exams, ranking 3rd in Odisha.
As India observes Teachers’ Day, an occasion to reaffirm the importance of teachers and education in nation-building, Project Vidyagraha merits a special mention. Within just three years, it has shown what is possible when innovation is driven by purpose. For Jharsuguda’s students, it is a gateway to discovering their true potential. For the wider community, it is a catalyst for progress.
