Transforming Lives of Over 37 Families in Remote Kaptipada Block

Balasore : In a significant step toward strengthening rural electrification, TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL), a joint venture of Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, has brought electricity to Dhanusahi, a remote village in Mayurbhanj district, under the Biju Gram Jyoti Yojana. The initiative has transformed the lives of more than 37 families, offering new opportunities for growth and development.

Located amid the hills and forests of Kaptipada block, Dhanusahi had long remained disconnected from the power grid. With no access to electricity, villagers were dependent on traditional lighting methods, limiting children’s ability to study after sunset and restricting families from carrying out essential activities in the evening.

With support from the district administration and the Government of Odisha, and through TPNODL’s concerted efforts, the village is now powered for the first time. A dedicated 11 kV electricity line and a 63 kVA transformer have been installed to ensure stable and reliable supply. Additional measures have been taken to prevent low-voltage issues and maintain consistent power delivery.

“Electricity has brought a new lease of life to our village. Our children can finally study at night, and we can work longer to improve our livelihoods,” said a resident, expressing the community’s collective joy.

At an event held today, Susanta Kumar Barik, Udala Sub-Collector, inaugurated the transformer in the presence of Pradeep Kumar Mohanty, Chief Projects, TPNODL; Debadutta Panda, Superintending Engineer, Baripada Electrical Circle; other officials; and villagers.

Mr. Barik noted that the administration and the Government remain committed to public welfare and regional development. He said the electrification of Dhanusahi marks a major milestone in bringing remote communities into the mainstream.

“We at TPNODL are committed to illuminating the lives of the people of Odisha,” said Pradeep Kumar Mohanty. “We will continue to work tirelessly to provide reliable and quality electricity services, driving growth and prosperity across the region
