Berhampur, February: TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL), a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha has commissioned a new 33 KV line of 4.73 Circuit Kilometres (CKM) at Marthamput in Lamtaput Block of Koraput district, marking a significant milestone in strengthening power infrastructure in the remote and hilly regions of southern Odisha. The initiative is set to enhance reliability, resilience, and quality of power supply for over 2,000 consumers in the area.
Located in the Southernmost part of Odisha along the Andhra Pradesh border, Koraput district forms part of the Eastern Ghats hill range and is characterised by undulating terrain, dense forests, scattered tribal habitations, and high rainfall during the monsoon season. The challenging topography of Lamtaput block has historically posed operational constraints in maintaining uninterrupted electricity supply, especially during adverse weather conditions when access for maintenance and fault restoration becomes difficult.
The newly commissioned 33 KV feeder will benefit consumers across Guneipada, Godihanjr, Jalahanjar, Chikenput, Anokadli and Badigada under Lamtaput Block. Earlier, power to Marthamput Primary Substation (PSS) was supplied through a 70-km-long 33 KV line originating from Sunabeda Grid Substation (GSS), passing through dense forests and hilly terrain. This often resulted in delayed fault detection and prolonged outages, particularly during the monsoon.
With the commissioning of the independent feeder from Lamtaput Grid Substation (GSS), Marthamput PSS now receives a dedicated power supply source, substantially reducing dependency on the longer line. Additionally, an N-1 contingency arrangement has been established through the Nandapur feeder, ensuring that in case of any fault or maintenance requirement on one line, an alternate source can seamlessly maintain supply.
This development will significantly reduce voltage fluctuations, improve supply stability, and ensure faster restoration during breakdowns. For households, it means dependable lighting, better support for students, and improved quality of life. For farmers and small businesses, it ensures stable power for irrigation, agro-processing, and livelihood activities. Public institutions such as schools, healthcare centres, and community facilities will also benefit from enhanced reliability.
