OMC Office Gherao as Laxmipur Trembles Amid People’s Movement
Kashipur / Laxmipur: Public agitation has once again intensified over the mining operations at the Kodingamali mine. Residents of the Kodingamali-affected areas staged a massive protest today in front of the OMC office at Laxmipur. The area echoed with slogans such as “Stop Kodingamali mining,” “Cancel the 6 million ton expansion,” and “Withdraw the public hearing.”

More than 1,500 tribal men and women participated in the agitation. Holding banners and placards, the locals strongly voiced their demands. With powerful slogans stressing “No company, no mine,” the protesters made their stand clear. They asserted that this struggle would continue to protect the hills, forests, water, and land, and to safeguard the livelihood and existence of local communities.

The residents clearly warned that if public opinion is ignored and a public hearing is forcibly conducted, or if the mining expansion proceeds, the movement will take a more intense and aggressive form in the coming days. Emphasizing the protection of Kodingamali hill and tribal identity, the affected residents declared that they would continue their struggle until the very end.
