  • Incident of a youth being beaten to death in the presence of police is unfortunate
  • Why is the police so helpless under the double-engine government?
  • Government must act before the situation goes completely out of control

Bhubaneswar, 07/05/2026:The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has alleged that the incident near the Ramachandrapur Bridge in Balianta on the outskirts of the capital, where a youth was beaten to death without any regard for the presence of police personnel, is extremely unfortunate and reflects the collapse of the rule of law in the state.

Addressing a press conference held today at SankhaBhawan, Party Spokesperson and Media Coordinator Dr. Lenin Mohanty and Spokesperson Shri Tumbanath Panda stated that such rising heinous crimes and murder incidents witnessed across the state during the past one week had never been seen before. They alleged that after the BJP government came to power, Odisha is being criticised across the country due to the incompetence of the State Home Department.

Dr. Lenin Mohanty stated that the people of Odisha are feeling increasingly insecure because of the growing incidents of violence occurring every day in the peace loving state. While the brutal murder of a pregnant woman in broad daylight at Hinjili and the attempt to murder a youth by running a vehicle over him at Kanas had already disturbed everyone, today’s incident has further shattered public confidence in the police and administrative system.

Shri Tumbanath Panda stated that the publicity-driven government has become completely insensitive towards maintaining the rule of law, the consequences of which are being suffered daily by the people of the state. Due to the government’s inefficiency, violent incidents are increasing at an alarming rate in Odisha.

He further said that the government wakes up only after gruesome incidents take place and merely states that action will be taken according to law. However, the government is not taking any concrete steps to prevent crimes. If such a situation continues, people will lose faith in the system altogether. Before the situation slips completely out of control, the double engine government must take immediate steps to curb violence in the state.
