Bhubaneswar, 28/06/2026:The BijuJanata Dal (BJD) has constituted a team to visit Betanati in Mayurbhanj district following the shocking alleged rape and murder of a 39-year-old married woman. The incident has triggered widespread public outrage and raised serious concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the State.
According to reports, the victim had gone to a nearby market on Friday morning but did not return home. She was later found in a critical condition and admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), Baripada, where she succumbed to her injuries. Preliminary investigations indicate that she was allegedly subjected to sexual assault and brutal physical violence. The victim’s husband has lodged a complaint alleging rape and murder.
In view of the gravity of the incident and the growing public concern,Honourable President of the BijuJanata Dal, Shri Naveen Patnaik, has constituted a team to visit the village, assess the situation on the ground, meet the bereaved family members, interact with local residents, and meet the police administration. The team will urge the authorities to intensify their efforts to apprehend the accused at the earliest, ensure a fair and speedy investigation, and restore public confidence in the safety and security of citizens.
The visit will be coordinated by Smt. BharatiHansda, ZillaParishad President, Mayurbhanj. The team will submit its report to the Honourable President of the BijuJanata Dal.
