Bhubaneswar, July 27, 2026: The sixth edition of the Induction training for newly appointed Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs) of Government Higher Secondary Schools and Government Upgraded Higher Secondary Schools under the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education, School and Mass Education Department, commenced at IMAGE, Siripur, Bhubaneswar.
The five-day workshop, being held from July 27 to July 31, is attended by 120 PGT teachers of Political Science, along with teachers of Sanskrit and Economics. The programme aims to equip teachers with the knowledge and skills required for effective classroom teaching, academic administration and student-centric learning in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The inaugural session was attended by Smt. Lalita Pattnaik, State Education Specialist, UNICEF, as the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries present included Smt. Niyati Pattnaik, Director,DHSE ; Smt. Sasmita Mali, Joint Director; Smt C.H. Vijayalakshmi, Deputy Director; and Smt. Jayajyoti Panda, State Education Consultant, UNICEF.
Addressing the participants, Smt. Lalita Pattnaik stressed the importance of continuous learning for teachers to ensure quality education. She said the training would help PGT teachers better understand their professional responsibilities and strengthen their teaching practices. Referring to NEP 2020, she highlighted the importance of student-centric education and encouraged participants to make the best use of the training programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Smt. Niyati Pattnaik said the workshop had been designed to address the practical needs of teachers. She expressed confidence that the knowledge and skills acquired during the training would enable teachers to make learning more effective and contribute to the holistic development of students.
Joint Director Smt. Sasmita Mali delivered the welcome address and outlined the objectives and structure of the programme. Deputy Director Smt. C.H. Vijayalakshmi coordinated the proceedings, while Smt. Jayajyoti Panda gave vote of thanks.
The orientation programme is being conducted in two phases. The first phase concluded on July 24, with 120 PGT teachers of Economics and Sanskrit participating. The second phase, which began on July 27, includes PGT teachers of Political Science along with additional participants from Economics and Sanskrit.
During the workshop, participants will receive training on various aspects of NEP 2020, gender-inclusive education, the use of ICT in teaching, Odisha Education Rules, the SAMS and Shikshajyoti portals, the POSH Act, scholarship schemes, administrative responsibilities, examination and assessment practices, and career guidance, among other key areas. The programme is expected to enhance teachers’ professional competencies and support the delivery of quality higher secondary education across the State.
