Baleshwar district tops Odisha in rooftop solar adoption

BALESHWAR; 09th Sep 2026: TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL), a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, officially launched its ‘Solar Rath’ campaign in Baleshwar today to accelerate public awareness and drive adoption of rooftop solar under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

The mobile outreach vehicle was flagged off by Mr. Suryawanshi Mayur Vikas, IAS, Collector & District Magistrate, Baleshwar, at the Collectorate in the presence of Mr. Dushyant Kumar Tyagi, Chief Executive Officer, TPNODL, and Mr. Sidhartha Roy, Superintending Engineer, Baleshwar Electrical Circle, alongside senior TPNODL officials and regional stakeholders.

Designed to educate consumers and the general public, the Solar Rath will travel through rural communities, commercial marketplaces, and prominent public hubs across the region. TPNODL’s outreach teams will provide direct guidance regarding government financial subsidies, eligibility criteria, application procedures and suitable technical solutions, including the 1 kW Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) Model aimed at simplifying residential solar access.

The launch marks a major milestone as TPNODL has surpassed 50,000 rooftop solar installations across its five-district service area, with cumulative installations reaching 51,799. Baleshwar district leads the state in solar adoption with 18,925 installations. Across TPNODL’s service area, Mayurbhanj follows with 11,083 installations, Jajpur with 9,475, Bhadrak with 6,573, and Keonjhar with 5,743 setups. Statewide installations in Odisha have now crossed 2 lakh, placing the state 7th nationally under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana initiative.

Commending the achievement, Mr. Suryawanshi Mayur Vikas highlighted TPNODL’s role in positioning Baleshwar as Odisha’s leading solar district and urged residents to leverage government subsidies to reduce energy expenses and contribute to environmental sustainability.

Reaffirming the organization’s vision, Mr. Dushyant Kumar Tyagi noted that surpassing 50,000 installations demonstrates growing consumer trust in renewable energy, adding that the Solar Rath will strengthen grassroots engagement and help deliver clean, affordable power across Northern Odisha.
