Nandini Satpathy Memorial Trust pays tribute to veteran freedom fighter and former Dhenkanal MP
Cuttack, September 9, 2026: The birth anniversary of veteran freedom fighter and former Member of Parliament from Dhenkanal, Shri Devendra Satpathy (September 9, 1929 – June 26, 1990), was observed with reverence in Cuttack on Wednesday.
Members and volunteers of the Smt. Nandini Satpathy Memorial Trust (SNSMT) organised a prayer meeting at the family’s modest yet iconic residence at 9, Pithapur, Cuttack, to remember the life and contributions of Shri Satpathy. The gathering was attended by several distinguished personalities and well-wishers.
Speaking on the occasion, SNSMT Chairman Shri Suparno Satpathy recalled a remark made by Babaji Maharaj of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram about his father. “Babaji Maharaj of Sri Aurobindo Ashram had once said that my Bapa, Shri Devendra Satpathy, was ‘Devtulya’—comparable to the divine. I could not agree more. My deepest gratitude to all of you for coming here and paying your homage.”
The occasion also recalled the enduring contributions of Smt. Nandini Satpathy and her husband, Shri Devendra Satpathy, to Odisha and the nation. Their public service, commitment and contribution to the social and political life of the state remain an important part of Odisha’s contemporary history.
The prayer meeting concluded with tributes to the departed leader and a remembrance of his public life and legacy.
