Life-saving advanced cardiac procedure performed for the first time in the district
JHARSUGUDA, Odisha – October 30, 2026: In a landmark achievement for healthcare in Western Odisha, BMRC Jharsuguda Cardiac Care Hospital has successfully performed the first-ever Dual-Chamber Pacemaker implantation in Jharsuguda district.
The milestone procedure was successfully performed by renowned Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Bikramaditya Padhee on a 75-year-old male patient who was suffering from complete heart block with dangerously low heart rate, recurrent dizziness, fatigue and risk of cardiac arrest.
The team led by Dr. Padhee successfully implanted a Dual-Chamber Pacemaker, which precisely regulates both chambers of the heart (atrium and ventricle), restoring a near-natural heart rhythm. The procedure was uneventful and the patient is now hemodynamically stable, active and recovering well.
A dual-chamber pacemaker is considered superior to a single-chamber device as it maintains AV synchrony, provides better cardiac output, reduces symptoms of heart failure and significantly improves quality of life, especially in elderly patients.
