20th National Daughters Day of India – Nandini Diwas marked

Bhubaneswar (9 June ‘26) : This year, ‘9 June’ marked the 95th birth anniversary of Legendary Smt. Nandini Satpathy.

In year 2007 as a mark of respect for the ‘Iron Lady of Orissa’ ,the then Governor of Orissa Shri Rameshwar Thakur had installed ‘9 June’ as National Daughters Day of India (Nandini Diwas) *Nandini & Diwas are two Sanskrit words which mean Daughter & Day respectively. This had been much appreciated by the then PM of India Dr. Manmohan Singh.

This year besides SNSMT volunteers , several organisations , several individuals, a number of who’s who too marked the day at the modest but iconic address at 📍 9 Pithapur Cuttack as well as at 📍Smt. Nandini Satpathy Chouk Bhubaneswar

Speaking on the occasion Hon’ble SNSMT Chairman Shri Suparno Satpathy said “Greetings to all the daughters of India. 9 June – National Daughters Day (Nandini Diwas) is a day to rekindle the mindset of India towards her greater half. The best homage to Nandini Devi would be when India follows the school of thought she belonged to. She shared the same with Sri Aurobindo, Netaji , Shri. Kalindi Ch Panigrahi, Shri. Bhagabati Ch Panigrahi and their likes. Should India follow the said, she would reach greater heights”.


As a mark of respect to Smt. Nandini Satpathy and as his expression of greetings to all the daughters of India – smoke art maestro Shri. Deepak Biswal , on 9 June , dedicated his art piece ‘9 Pithapur Cuttack’ to India
Union Ministers, Governor of Odisha , CM of Odisha and many others took to social media to mark ‘9 June – National Daughters Day of India – Nandini Diwas’
