Katak : On 21 Oct 1943 Netaji had founded Azad Hind Sarkar (first Government of undivided India). USA marks their Declaration of Independence Day. For long there has been a demand that India should mark her Declaration of Independence Day on 21 October. In year 2018 the then PM of India had visited Red Fort Delhi , hoisted the tricolour and had marked 21 Oct. For the past several years volunteers and members of Smt. Nandini Satpathy Memorial Trust (SNSMT) have been marking 21 Oct at their modest but iconic address 9 Pithapur Cuttack. Speaking on the occasion SNSMT Chairman Shri Suparno Satpathy said “9 Pithapur Cuttack used to be the HQ of Martyr of India’s freedom struggle Revolutionary Shri. Bhagabati Charan Panigrahi and his Balidan diiwas in just 2 days after 21 Oct 1943, which makes him the first to give his supreme sacrifice for Azad Hind Sarkar. As per PM Narendra Modi if 14 Aug is Freedom Struggle Horror Remembrance Day then so is 15 Aug. Because of 15 Aug 1947 several gruesome acts took place in partitioned India on both sides, then how can we say happy Independence Day on 15 Aug ? Our long standing appeal is to mark 21 Oct instead”.
