Regarding the Chief Minister’s Statement at the 16th Employment Fair

  • Out of the 45,000 appointments claimed to have been made in two years, advertisements for 39,000 posts were issued during the BJD Government
  • While there was a promise to provide 65,000 government jobs in two years, only 6,000 fresh appointments have been made
  • Unemployment rate in the State has increased from 0.9% to 3.5% in the last two years

Bhubaneswar, 10/08/2026:The BijuJanata Dal (BJD) today said that while Chief Minister Shri Mohan CharanMajhi, attending the 16th Employment Fair organised by his government, claimed that his government is committed to providing employment to unemployed youth in the State, the BJP Government has completely failed to fulfil the promises it made during the elections in the field of employment. The BJD further said that the BJP Government’s claim of having provided employment to 45,000 youth in the last two years is misleading, as advertisements for nearly 39,000 of these appointments had already been issued during the tenure of the Naveen Government.

In a press statement issued by the BijuJanata Dal, party spokesperson and Media Coordinator Dr. Lenin Mohanty said that the BJP Government has failed to keep its promises regarding employment. Chief Minister Shri Mohan CharanMajhi, in his statement today, claimed that his government had made appointments to 45,000 government posts during the last two years, which is misleading. In reply to a question in the Odisha Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Shri Mohan CharanMajhi had provided detailed information regarding the appointments made during the last two years and the dates on which advertisements for recruitment to these posts had been issued. According to these details, out of the total 45,000 appointments made, advertisements for 39,000 posts had been issued by the Naveen Government between 2020 and 2023.

This means that the BJP Government has made only 6,000 fresh appointments to government posts. This clearly shows that the BJP has failed to fulfil the promises it made in the field of employment during the last two years. In its election manifesto, the BJP had promised to provide 1.5 lakh government jobs in five years. Accordingly, it should have provided employment to 65,000 persons in two years, but it has made appointments to only 6,000 posts.

Dr. Mohanty further said that during the 24 months of the BJP Government, out of the examinations conducted for recruitment to various government posts, 24 examinations have been cancelled, which demonstrates the government’s lack of competence in handling the recruitment process. According to government data, as of January 2026, 94,485 government posts are lying vacant.

Besides this, in the private industrial sector, the BJP had promised to create employment opportunities and provide jobs to 3.5 lakh youth of the State, but this promise has turned out to be nothing more than a hollow assurance. After the BJP came to power, the unemployment rate in the State has increased. While the unemployment rate in the State was 0.9% during the BJD Government, it has now increased to 3.5%. After examination of all available data relating to employment clearly exposes the failure of the BJP Government. However, instead of addressing the employment crisis, the BJP Government is misleading the people and patting itself on the back.
