Bhubaneswar, April 16: A patient suffering from acute pyelonephritis, a bacterial infection causing inflammation of the kidneys, accompanied by septic shock has been successfully treated at the Phulnakhara campus of the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital.
The patient, a 42-year-old male, was brought to the hospital on April 3 last complaining of fever, breathlessness and altered sensorium. He was admitted under the care of Dr. Gouri Shankar Ray, Critical Care Medicine Specialist, in the Intensive Care Unit.
He was intubated the next day in view of the respiratory distress he was encountering and had to undergo dialysis four times. The patient underwent Ureteroscopic Lithotripsy (URSL) for removal of a kidney stone.
A team of doctors including the nephrologist and radiologist were involved in the treatment of the patient. As his condition improved, he was removed from the ventilator on April 6 and subsequently discharged.
The patient was absolutely fine now and able to perform his day to day activities. The family members of the patient have expressed their happiness and thanked the team of doctors, nurses and paramedics for the successful treatment of their kin.
