Depression Likely to Cross Ganjam Coast on September 23; Rainfall Expected Across Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Sept. 22: The depression over the Bay of Bengal is likely to move nearly parallel to the Odisha coast and may cross the coast somewhere in Ganjam district during the night of September 23, 2026, Siksha O Anusandhan ‘s Centre for Environment and Climate’s bulletin said.According to CEC ‘s Director Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu
the system is currently experiencing increased wind shear and weakening of the associated cloud mass, which may hinder its further intensification into a Deep Depression.
After crossing the coast, the system is expected to move in a northwesterly direction towards Chhattisgarh and subsequently towards northern India Dr Sahu said.
Under its influence, moderate to heavy rainfall is likely in several interior districts of Odisha, including parts of western Odisha, up to September 25, 2026.
Further updates on the movement and intensity of the system will be provided as the situation evolves Cec bulletin said.
