Bhubaneswar, 12 October 2026: The Odisha Arthritis and Rheumatology Foundation Trust (OARFT) observed World Arthritis Day 2026 by organising an awareness walkathon to promote public awareness about arthritis, the importance of early diagnosis, and timely, appropriate treatment.
The walkathon commenced from the campus of the Odisha Arthritis & Rheumatology Center (OARC), Bhubaneswar, and proceeded towards Rupali Square, carrying the message of joint health, early medical intervention, and an active lifestyle. The initiative aimed to encourage people to recognise the early symptoms of arthritis and seek medical advice without delay.
Dr. Bijay Kumar Mishra, Patron of the Odisha Rheumatology Association, joined the programme as the Chief Guest, while Dr. Manoj Chhotray, Ex-President of the Odisha Rheumatology Association, attended as the Guest of Honour. Both dignitaries inaugurated the walkathon and encouraged the public to participate in spreading awareness about rheumatic diseases and the importance of maintaining healthy joints.

Addressing the rally, Prof. Dr. Jyoti Ranjan Parida, Medical Director of OARC, highlighted that early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are essential for people living with arthritis to maintain mobility, independence, and a good quality of life. He emphasised that persistent joint pain, swelling, or stiffness should not be ignored, as timely medical consultation can help prevent disease progression and reduce the risk of long-term disability.
Arthritis and other rheumatic diseases can affect people of different age groups and may interfere with everyday activities if left untreated. Through this awareness initiative, OARFT sought to highlight the importance of public education, early recognition of symptoms, appropriate medical care, and continued management of these conditions.
The walkathon reaffirmed OARFT’s commitment to promoting awareness of arthritis and rheumatic diseases and encouraging people to take proactive steps towards better joint health.
The key message of World Arthritis Day 2026 is clear: Do not ignore joint pain. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment can help people lead healthier, more active lives.
