  • Who is telling the truth, the Chief Minister or the Minister?
  • BJP’s claim of appointing 36,000 teachers in the last two years is not based on facts
  • The information provided by the Chief Minister in the Assembly on teacher recruitment does not match the information given by the Law Minister
  • The Government’s decision to make children study from error-ridden textbooks is unfortunate

Bhubaneswar, 18/06/2026:The real face of the BJP Government, which has been boasting about fulfilling its election promise through teacher recruitment in Odisha, has now been exposed. The BijuJanata Dal has strongly criticized the BJP Government, stating that its claim of having appointed 36,000 teachers in the last two years is completely false.

Addressing a press conference at SankhaBhawan today, party spokesperson and Media Coordinator Dr. Lenin Mohanty said that Law Minister Shri PrithvirajHarichandan, in a statement, claimed that the BJP Government had appointed 36,000 teachers over the last two years and that another 18,000 teachers would be recruited during the current year. Dr. Mohanty said that the statement made by the Law Minister is completely false and is intended only to mislead the people of Odisha. He alleged that the Minister is making such claims on teacher recruitment merely to create confusion among the public.

In a written reply to a question raised by MLA Dr. Arun Kumar Sahoo in the Assembly, Chief Minister Mohan CharanMajhi had stated that the Government had appointed a total of 39,505 employees across various departments in the State. Dr. Mohanty questioned how, under such circumstances, the Law Minister could claim that 36,000 teachers alone had been recruited by the Government.

The Chief Minister had also admitted in the Assembly that, as per the notification issued on 10.09.2023 during the previous BJD Government, the recruitment process for 16,009 teachers was already in its final stage. However, after coming to power, the BJP Government merely distributed appointment letters and is now claiming it as its own achievement. Dr. Mohanty questioned whether the Law Minister, by refusing to accept the information provided by the Chief Minister, was trying to project himself as being above the Chief Minister and countering his official statement.

During the 2024 General Elections, the BJP had promised to fill 1.5 lakh vacant government posts. However, even after two years in power, the promise has remained unfulfilled. The BJP Government, which claims to ensure transparent and fair recruitment, has witnessed disruptions in 23 examinations over the last two years, resulting in the cancellation of those examinations. This has severely undermined the trust of educated unemployed youth in Odisha. Dr. Mohanty demanded that the Government expedite the recruitment process in a transparent manner and immediately fill all vacant government posts.

Dr. Mohanty further stated that the BJP, which came to power in the name of OdiaAsmita, has successfully implemented a well-planned strategy to damage the future of Odisha. Textbooks containing 1,760 errors have been distributed among students studying from Classes I to VIII in government schools. After the issue of the error-ridden textbooks came to the notice of the Government, the Hon’ble Chief Minister convened an emergency meeting yesterday and announced that a high-level inquiry would be conducted and those responsible would be punished within seven days.

However, today, School and Mass Education Minister NityanandaGond, through the Director of SCERT, reportedly disregarded the Chief Minister’s directions and stated before the media that the error-ridden textbooks would not be replaced. Instead, students would make corrections themselves and continue studying from the same defective books. This clearly indicates that the School and Mass Education Minister, Shri Gond, is not respecting the directions of the Chief Minister.
