Creating a culture that supports employees, empowers families and strengthens communities

The life journey of most people is often built on a firm bedrock – their family, who shape their values, guide their decisions and enable them to move forward with confidence. The United Nations’ theme for International Day of Families 2026 is ‘Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing’, a message that reinforces the need for building more inclusive systems that support and nurture the wellbeing of family units.

This belief is reflected in Vedanta Aluminium’s multi-layered approach to employee-wellbeing, which envisions team members, families and communities as an inter-connected ecosystem. Healthcare and wellness are core to this approach, anchored by initiatives such as the company’s free healthcare policy for employees and their dependents, and enabled by policies such as the Spouse Wellness Policy. Families benefit from access to quality medical care from leading healthcare providers, both in-person and through digital platforms, along with regular preventive checkups and awareness sessions on nutrition, mental wellbeing and women’s health. This is further strengthened through Vedanta’s partnership with MantraCare, a comprehensive wellness platform that offers services such as online medical consultations, mental health support, physiotherapy, yoga and lifestyle management, ensuring holistic care for employees and their families.

The company’s family-focused approach is also demonstrated in efforts such as the integrated township built in the vicinity of its mega aluminium plant in Jharsuguda, designed to support everyday living through access to healthcare, education and essential amenities, alongside spaces for recreation and community life. With facilities such as gyms, swimming pools, sports complexes and daycare centers, the township enables employees to balance work and family commitments with ease. Regular engagement initiatives and enthusiastic celebrations of festivals such as Holi, Durga Puja, Diwali and Christmas further contribute to a sense of community.

C Chandru, CEO – Vedanta Aluminium, Jharsuguda emphasized this philosophy, saying, “At Vedanta Aluminium, we believe robust organizations are built on strong families and community networks. Our commitment to development extends to the wellbeing, growth and happiness of our people and their families. Through healthcare support, comprehensive township ecosystems, learning opportunities and community initiatives, we strive to create an environment where families feel secure, valued and connected.”

Extending this commitment beyond its teams, Vedanta Aluminium also works closely with the communities around its operations, benefitting thousands of families at the grassroots level. At the forefront of the company’s family-focused efforts is Nand Ghar, Vedanta’s flagship program that is transforming anganwadis into modern centers for women and child development, with a focus on maternal healthcare, child nutrition and early education. In Jharsuguda, over 175 Nand Ghars are currently strengthening access to essential services at the grassroots level.

Further, the company is ensuring last-mile healthcare access through mobile health units operating across 28 villages in Jharsuguda, reaching over 18,000 beneficiaries with doorstep healthcare services, while wider awareness drives have impacted over 2.8 lakh individuals. These efforts are supported by sustained campaigns on child nutrition, maternal health and menstrual hygiene, alongside interventions such as pulse polio drives that have helped immunize 1,486 children in Jharsuguda by FY26 , within collectively empowering families with healthier outcomes.

Aligned with the global theme ‘Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing’, these efforts are all aimed at improving overall quality of life and enabling more equitable opportunities for the families of both employees and community members. As the world marks the International Day of Families, Vedanta Aluminium’s continued focus reflects a deep commitment to care, inclusion and shared growth. This is reflected in the company receiving major recognitions such as the Great Place to Work certification and the PeopleFirst HR Excellence Awards, for fostering an environment where employees, families and communities grow together with confidence and purpose.
