Bhubaneswar: The White Coat Ceremony for the 2026 MBBS and BDS admission batches of the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) was held on Friday.
Welcoming the newly admitted MBBS and BDS students, Dr Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT, KISS and KIMS, urged them to make the best use of the opportunities available to them and remain committed to lifelong learning throughout their careers.
Dr Samanta also expressed his gratitude to the parents for reposing their faith in KIMS and choosing the institution for their children’s medical education. He noted that students could further enrich their knowledge and broaden their perspectives by benefiting from the expertise and academic resources available across the various schools of KIIT.
“This is the age of knowledge, and you must make the most of it,” he said. Pointing out that many successful candidates in the Civil Services Examination (UPSC) today come from a medical background, he encouraged the students to explore opportunities beyond the conventional boundaries of the profession.
Pro-Chancellor of KIIT, Dr Subrat Kumar Acharya, described medicine as an excellent profession and urged the students to enjoy their academic journey. He said learning should be an enjoyable experience, as acquiring knowledge is itself a rewarding process.
He encouraged the students to aim for excellence and develop the confidence to become successful professionals. He also reminded them that they were fortunate to be part of one of the finest educational institutions in the country.

Principal of KIMS, Prof. Dr R C Das, described the students’ entry into medical education as a stage of transformation. He said the White Coat Ceremony was a moment they would cherish throughout their lives.
He urged them to accept the white coat with humility and a sense of responsibility towards society.
He advised students to make effective use of technology in medical education and practice, while ensuring that it remained a tool to assist them rather than control their decisions.
Dr C B K Mohanty, Pro Vice-Chancellor, School of Medicine, KIIT, asked the young medical students to treat patients with compassion and empathy. He said medical professionals must remember the human side of healthcare while treating patients.
The White Coat Ceremony marked the formal beginning of the medical education journey of the 2026 MBBS and BDS batches at KIMS.
KIMS Medical Superintendent Dr M R Behera, Vice Principal Dr Lalatendu Mohanty and Principal of the KIIT School of Dental Sciences Prof. (Dr.) Sangamesh N.C. also participated in the programme.
