Launch of SOHAM – Sunlit Odisha Autism Healing Mission in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar : In a significant step towards building an inclusive and supportive ecosystem for neurodivergent individuals, SOHAM (Sunlit Odisha Autism Healing Mission) was inaugurated today at the ASHA Center of Wellness, Baramunda HB Colony, Bhubaneswar .

The centre was formally inaugurated by Rotary District Governor (RID 3262) Rtn. Manoj K. Tripathy , along with Inner Wheel Chairman Mrs. Madhusmita Tripathy , in the presence of eminent dignitaries, social workers, parents, Rotary leaders from various clubs, Past District Governors, and members of the community.

SOHAM is envisioned as a Centre of Excellence for Autism Screening and Skilling , and stands as a flagship initiative of the Rotary Club of Bhubaneswar in collaboration with the Better Matter Foundation . Dedicated during Autism Awareness Month , the center reflects a strong commitment to societal well-being and inclusion.

A key highlight of the initiative is that both the screening and skilling programs will be offered completely free of cost to parents , ensuring accessibility and support for families across socio-economic backgrounds.

Addressing the gathering, the founders of Better Matter Foundation, Dr. Soumya Ranjan Patnaik and Dr. Ananya Patnaik , emphasized that “This initiative is not just a program, but a movement towards redefining inclusion and empowering neurodivergent individuals to lead meaningful lives.”

The centre will initially roll out a vocational skilling program for 30 young adults , with plans to expand its reach across districts through partnerships and community engagement.

Speaking on the occasion, Rotary Club of Bhubaneswar President Rtn. Sanjaya Choudhury stated that the initiative will create a lasting and meaningful impact for society , addressing one of the most pressing and emerging concerns—autism. He stressed the importance of early screening and timely intervention in supporting neurodivergent children.

Sunlit Odisha Autism Healing Mission (SOHAM) is a comprehensive initiative focusing on:

  • Early autism screening
  • Intervention and therapy support
  • Skill development and vocational training
  • Community awareness and sensitization

Through its integrated approach, SOHAM aims to build an inclusive, neurodiversity-friendly ecosystem in Odisha , empowering individuals and their families.

The initiative also aligns with national priorities and the mission of Rotary International in promoting inclusive education, skill development, and social empowerment.

During the event, Rotary Project Chair PP Rtn. B.K. Sharma welcomed the dignitaries, while Club Secretary Rtn. Biswajit Patra delivered the vote of thanks, appreciating the collective efforts and encouraging wider participation in this noble cause.

SOHAM invites parents, educators, CSR partners, and community leaders to join this transformative journey and contribute towards building a society where inclusion is not an exception, but the norm .
