New delhi (Kalinga Voice) : Supreme Court today upholding UGC decision ” No promotion without examination. States cannot promote students without holding final year exams”

The Supreme Court has rejected an application to cancel the online/offline test in view of the COVID crisis. The Supreme Court today said that universities will have to conduct their final year exams. The court said that if a state feels that it is not possible for them to conduct the examination, then it can go to the UGC. States cannot promote students without taking the final year examination. The Supreme Court has upheld the UGC’s decision to conduct the examination by 30 September.

In the Supreme Court, Justice Ashok Bhushan, Justice R.K. Subhash Reddy and Justice MR. Shah’s bench said that the state and UT by themselves cannot pass the students without examination. They have to approach the UGC to postpone the examinations in view of the COVID-19 epidemic. The bench said that the request to cancel h the UGC guidelines has been rejected.

On July 6, the UGC ordered the country’s universities to conduct their final year exams by September 30. Undergraduates cannot be awarded degrees without final year exams, the UGC directive said. States, including Delhi, Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh, have canceled last year’s university exams by examining their own status based on the UGC’s first guideline.
