NTPC Bongaigaon Inaugurates Mobile Science Lab at Salakati M.E. School to Promote Experiential Learning

Bongaigaon : As part of its commitment to promoting quality education and nurturing scientific temperament among young learners, NTPC Bongaigaon inaugurated the Mobile Science Lab at Salakati M.E. School, Kokrajhar under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

The Mobile Science Lab was inaugurated by Smt. Suprava Roy, ACS, Additional District Commissioner, Kokrajhar, in the presence of Shri Riju Dutta, Secretary, Seva Bharati Purvanchal, Assam; Shri Madhurjya Singha Lahkar, DGM (Corporate Communication), NTPC Bongaigaon; Smt. Sandita Brahma, Principal, Salakati M.E. School; officials of the Education Department, representatives of Seva Bharati Purvanchal, teachers, students and members of the local community.

Implemented at an approximate cost of ₹58 lakh, the project aims to strengthen science education by bringing practical and activity-based learning directly to schools. The initiative seeks to bridge the gap between theoretical classroom teaching and hands-on experimentation, particularly in educational institutions with limited laboratory facilities. The programme has commenced in the Kokrajhar district in its first phase and will subsequently cover schools across Chirang and Bongaigaon districts. Over one year, the Mobile Science Lab will reach 60 schools and is expected to benefit nearly 30,000 students through interactive demonstrations, scientific experiments and curriculum-aligned learning activities.

Equipped with scientific models, experiment kits and educational tools, the Mobile Science Lab was designed to make science learning more engaging, accessible and enjoyable. The initiative is expected to foster curiosity, critical thinking and innovation among students while enhancing their understanding of scientific concepts through practical exposure.

Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Suprava Roy appreciated NTPC Bongaigaon for undertaking the initiative and highlighted the importance of experiential learning in developing a scientific outlook among students. She observed that early exposure to practical science can inspire curiosity, creativity and problem-solving skills, encouraging students to explore future opportunities in science, technology and innovation.

Representatives of Seva Bharati Purvanchal explained the project’s operational framework. They emphasized that the Mobile Science Lab would enable students from rural and semi-urban schools to witness scientific principles in action and actively participate in experiments, thereby enriching classroom learning. The inauguration programme was attended by Shri Riju Dutta, Secretary, Seva Bharati Purvanchal, Assam; Shri Madhurjya Singha Lahkar, DGM (Corporate Communication), NTPC Bongaigaon; and Smt. Sandita Brahma, Principal, Salakati M.E. School; officials of the Education Department, representatives of Seva Bharati Purvanchal, teachers, students and members of the local community. The dignitaries interacted with the students and expressed confidence that the Mobile Science Lab would help nurture scientific curiosity, creativity and innovation among young learners across the region.

Education remains one of the key focus areas of NTPC Bongaigaon’s CSR initiatives. Through projects such as the Mobile Science Lab, NTPC Bongaigaon creates meaningful learning opportunities for students and contributes to building a stronger foundation for future generations through knowledge, innovation and skill development.
