OPGC Celebrates Van Mahotsav with 2,500-Sapling Plantation Drive under “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” Campaign
Banharpali, Jharsuguda: Reinforcing its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development, Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC) celebrated Van Mahotsav by organizing a large-scale plantation programme at the Helipad Ground of the IB Thermal Power Station (ITPS) Township under the nationwide campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.”
The programme was led by Director (Operations), Mr. A. R. Dash, and coordinated by the Environment Team of OPGC. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from employees and officials of OPGC, students of DAV Schools, IB Thermal Power Station, and members of the ITPS Ladies Club, who joined hands to plant saplings and reaffirm their commitment to environmental conservation.
As part of the programme, 2,500 saplings of indigenous and environmentally significant species, including Neem, Karanj, Jamun, Sisoo (Shisham), Amla and Arjun, were planted in the Helipad area of the ITPS Township. The plantation drive aims to enhance green cover, improve biodiversity and contribute to a healthier environment.
Addressing the gathering, Director (Operations), Mr. A. R. Dash, emphasized the importance of tree plantation in mitigating climate change and preserving ecological balance. He urged all participants to nurture the saplings and transform the plantation drive into a long-term commitment towards protecting nature.
The plantation programme forms part of OPGC’s ambitious afforestation initiative for FY 2026-27. In collaboration with the Odisha Forest Development Corporation (OFDC), OPGC has set a target of planting 21,000 saplings during the financial year. Of these, 5,000 saplings will be planted within the ITPS plant and township area, while 16,000 saplings will be planted in the ash pond area to enhance green cover and promote ecological restoration.
Through initiatives such as Van Mahotsav and “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” OPGC continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable development by promoting community participation in environmental conservation and contributing to a greener and healthier future.
