OSPCB-Utkal Aditya Refinery Friendly Cricket Match Promotes Environmental Awareness

Kashipur : Utkal Alumina International Ltd,(UAIL) a subsidiary unit of Hindalco Industries under the Aditya Birla Group, organised a friendly 20-over cricket match between the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) and Utkal Aditya Refinery was successfully organized at the Cricket Stadium, Oshapada Township, under the leadership of Unit Head, Mr. Rabi Narayan Mishra, with the objective of promoting awareness on environmental sustainability and green practices.

The programme was graced by esteemed dignitaries including Mr. Sitikantha Sahu, Additional Chief Engineer; Mrs Babita Singh, Regional Officer, Balangir; Mr. Debabrata Sethi, Environment Engineer; Mr. Santosh Panda, Senior Environment Engineer; Mr. Satyanarayan Nanda, Regional Officer, Sambalpur; Mr. Anup Mallick, Regional Officer, Rourkela; Mr. Ashok Kumar Bhoi, Regional Officer, Rayagada; Mr. Repu Kumar Sahoo, Deputy Engineer, Rayagada; along with Mr. Rabi Narayan Mishra, Unit Head, UAIL, and Mr. Mazhar Beig, Project Head, Aditya Refinery.

Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries emphasized the need to mitigate pollution hazards, discourage the use of polythene, and ensure the judicious use of natural resources to prevent environmental degradation and promote a sustainable future. Mr. Dilip Das, Senior Environment Engineer, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of environmental protection and encouraging the use of bicycles wherever feasible as a sustainable alternative to cars.

In the match, OSPCB won the toss and elected to bat first, posting a competitive total of 194 runs. Utkal Aditya Refinery put up a commendable effort in the chase but narrowly lost the match by 3 runs, making it a closely contested encounter.

The event witnessed participation of around 59 members from OSPCB, along with senior representatives from Utkal Aditya Refinery including Mr. Narayan Mitra, Mr. Kiran Nayak, Mr. Samir Padhi, and other officials.

The event was successfully coordinated by the Environment team, led by Mr. Surendra Sheoran, Mr. Chandan Choudhary, Mr. Subhramanyu Kund and other members.

On this occasion, a plantation drive was also conducted. All the dignitaries planted saplings and conveyed a message promoting environmental sustainability.

The initiative reflects Utkal Alumina and Aditya Refinery’s continued commitment to environmental stewardship and collaborative stakeholder engagement.
