SOA Hosts International Conference on Computational Mathematics for Engineering Sciences and Healthcare
Bhubaneswar, August 6: A three-day International Conference on Computational Mathematics for Engineering Sciences and Healthcare (ICCMESH-2026) inaugurated at Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) Deemed to be University’s faculty of engineering Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER) on Thursday.
The conference organized by the department of mathematics aims to bringing together leading academicians, researchers, scientists and industry experts from India and abroad to explore recent advances in computational mathematics and its applications in engineering, healthcare and interdisciplinary sciences.
The conference also aims to provide an international platform for the exchange of ideas, dissemination of cutting-edge research and fostering of collaborations among experts working in computational mathematics and allied disciplines.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Prof. Pradipta Kumar Nanda, Vice-Chancellor of SOA, who presided over the function. Prof. Sanjeewa Perera, Chair Professor of Mathematics and Director of the Centre for Mathematical Modeling, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, attended as the Chief Guest, while Prof. Manjula Das, Controller of Examinations, SOA, was the Guest of Honour.
Prof. Pradeep Kumar Sahoo, Dean, ITER; Prof. Sunita Chand, Head of the Department of Mathematics and Organising Chair of ICCMESH-2026; Prof. Mitali Madhusmita Nayak, Convener of the conference; and Co-conveners Dr. Saubhagya Kumar Sahoo and Dr. Pinaki Prasad Kar were also present in the event.

In his inaugural address, Prof. Sanjeewa Perera highlighted the transformative role of computational mathematics, mathematical modelling and artificial intelligence in addressing complex global challenges, particularly in public healthcare and the management of infectious diseases. He emphasised that advances in computational sciences have become indispensable for developing innovative, evidence-based solutions to real-world problems.
Delivering the presidential address, Prof. Pradipta Kumar Nanda underscored the growing importance of computational sciences in driving technological innovation and solving multidisciplinary challenges. Reaffirming SOA’s commitment to academic excellence, he said the university would continue to promote high-quality research, innovation and international collaborations to create impactful scientific outcomes for society.
As part of the inaugural ceremony, a memento was presented to the Chief Guest in recognition of his distinguished contributions to mathematics, while the conference abstract book also formally released, marking the official commencement of ICCMESH-2026.
The conference features an impressive line-up of internationally acclaimed keynote speakers and invited experts. Among them are Prof. Dumitru Baleanu, globally recognised for his pioneering contributions to fractional calculus and mathematical physics; Prof. Millie Pant, Head of the Department of Mathematics, IIT Roorkee, an internationally respected researcher in computational optimisation, evolutionary algorithms, swarm intelligence and artificial intelligence; Prof. Sanjeewa Perera of the University of Colombo; and Prof. Prashant Kumar Srivastava of IIT Patna, whose research spans mathematical modelling, nonlinear dynamics and epidemiology.
Other eminent speakers include Dr. Arya Kumar Bedabrata Chand (IIT Madras), Dr. Nitu Kumari (IIT Mandi), Dr. Bappan Ghosh (IIEST Shibpur, Howrah), Dr. Jitendra Kaushik (Symbiosis International University, Pune), Prof. S. C. Martha (IIT Ropar), Prof. M. Tanveer (IIT Indore) and Dr. Ravindra Jha (IIT Guwahati). Their lectures are expected to provide valuable insights into emerging developments in computational mathematics and its wide-ranging applications in healthcare, engineering, optimisation, artificial intelligence and data-driven scientific research.
Over the next three days, ICCMESH-2026 will feature keynote lectures, invited talks, technical paper presentations and interactive scientific sessions covering diverse frontier areas of computational mathematics and interdisciplinary research. The conference has attracted enthusiastic participation from faculty members, research scholars, students and professionals representing premier universities, research institutions and industries from India and several other countries, making it a vibrant forum for knowledge exchange, academic networking and collaborative research.
