SOA ORGANISES 5-DAY WORKSHOP ON BIOSTATISTICAL ANALYSIS

Bhubaneswar, May 19: A five-day workshop aiming to provide practical exposure to researchers in biostatistical analysis and Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) applications in biotechnology and healthcare research concluded at the Institute of Business and Computer Studies (IBCS), faculty of management sciences of SOA Deemed to be University here on Friday.

            The workshop on ‘Applied Biostatistics for Biotechnology: Data Analysis using SPSS’ reflected the growing academic interest in applied biostatistics and research analytics as it was attended by participants from different schools and institutions of biotechnology across Odisha.

            Dr. Basudeb Kar, Workshop Convenor delivered the thematic address while highlighting the objectives, structure and pratical orientation of the program. He stressed the importance of statistical tools, SPSS-based data analysis and evidence-based interpretation in biotechnology and healthcare studies.

            The technical session on the day of inauguration was conducted by Prof. Manoranjan Dash, Associate Dean of IBCS, who shared valuable insights on applied biostatistics, interpretation of statistical outputs, data visualization and practical application of SPSS in biotechnology research.

            Prof. Dash also discussed the growing integration of analytics, Artificial Intelligence and data-driven decision making in modern scientific research.

            Prof. Ayasakanta Mohanty, Dean of IBCS, delivered the presidential address while appreciating the collaborative academic initiative between the faculty of Management Sciences and the Centre of Biotechnology.

            Prof. Sanghamitra Nayak, Head of the Centre of Biotechnology, who also addressed the participants, focused on the growing need for statistical software and analytical tools in the analysis and interpretation of biological research data while emphasizing the importance of modern biotechnology research and innovation.

            The participants received hands on training during the workshop on descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, correlation, regression analysis, non-parametric tests and interpretation of biological research data using SPSS software through practical demonstrations and interactive sessions.

            Dr. Preeti Y. Shadangi, Workshop Convenor, who delivered the welcome address, emphasized on the growing importance of biostatistics, research methodology and data analytics in contemporary scientific and healthcare research.
