State level National Handloom Day celebrated

Primary Weavers Cooperative Societies felicitated.

Bhubaneswar(Kalinga Voice) : Today is 7th August 2022. The State level 8th National Handloom Day is being celebrated through out the State covering a week long period i.e. from 7th to 15th August 2022 and this is an opportunity for each and every citizen for respecting out age old weaving culture and tradition and supporting the weaver artisans, who have carried the profession from generation to generation with their exceptional skill and creative ability. Handloom products of our State represent an inseparable art of out rich culture and tradition and act as a source of livelihood for millions of weavers engaged in this activity.

The 7th August has been chosen for its special significance in India’s freedom struggle. On this day of 1905, the Swadeshi Movement was formally launched at a massive meeting in the Calcutta Town Hall. To commemorate the beginning of Swadeshi Movement in 1905 on 7th August, the day is celebrated as National  Handloom Day all over the country with the objective to generate awareness on the importance of Handloom Industry and its contribution to the socio-economic development of the country in general.

The Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Department celebrated the State level National Handloom Day at Jayadev Bhawan, Bhubaneswar today. Smt. Rita Sahu, Minister, Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts has graced the function asChief Guest and inaugurated the celebration in presence of Sri Ananta Narayan Jena, MLA, Bhubaneswar (Central), Sri Susanta Kumar Dash, Director, Textiles and Handlooms, Sri Shyamabhakta Mishra, MD, Boyanika.

Three Primary Weavers Cooperative Societies have felicitated with memento and awarded with cash prize of Rs. 1 Lakh each. They are Padmanavapur WCS Ltd. Berhampur, Ganjam, Sadarthana WCS Ltd. Khorda and Khordha WCS Ltd. Khordha. Similarly 3 Primary Weavers Cooperative Societies have also been awarded for heighest sales in last 3 years. Gamilo WCS Ltd., Athagarh, Cuttack has received Rs. 3 Lakh as first prize, Jalpalu WCS Ltd., Baragarh Rs. 2 Lakh as 2nd prize and Lurupali WCS Ltd. Baragarh Rs. 1 Lakh as third prize.
