Berhampur, April 10: A Continuing Medical Education (CME) program was conducted at the Sitalapalli campus of SUM Hospital here recently to focus attention on effective implementation of hospital infection control (HIC) practices which are considered key to prevention of infection in hospitals.
HIC practices refer to measures and protocols put in place to stop or prevent the spread of infection in hospital which include hand hygiene, proper use of personal protective equipment, biomedical waste management, isolation precaution and sterilization of equipment.
Dr. Apurba S. Sastry, an infectious disease specialist and clinical microbiologist at the Jawahar Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education, Puducherry was the resource person.
Robust infection control practices could slow down or stop the development of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), he said.
Dr. Sastry is known for his significant contribution to research, education and clinical practices in the prevention and management of infectious diseases including hospital infection control.
The CME was supported by Mr. Deba Prasad Dash, Director of SUM Hospital, Sitalapalli campus while it was inaugurated by Dr. Anand Sastry, Medical Superintendent of the hospital. Dr. E.Sanjeev Rao felicitated the resource person while Dr. Manoj Panigrahi proposed the vote of thanks.
